BOOK OF THE DAY: Rear View Mirror by Tony Schumacher

by Tony Schumacher

BOOK DESCRIPTION
Stories from the streets and the night, the drunks, the drug addicts, the lager, the lost, the lonely and the lovers who pass across the back seat of my cab.

Liverpool is the back drop but the stage could be any taxi in any town, one act real life dramas. Short stories to make you laugh and cry, lifting the lid on the city life many never see, the small hours when you are asleep in bed, laid bare.

Ex copper, now cabby, writer and stand up comedian Tony Schumacher invites you to take a look in his rear view mirror...

AUTHOR BIO

Tony Schumacher is sitting here, on the outskirts Liverpool, England, wondering if he should write his author profile in the third person or not. He thinks that maybe if he writes in the third person it may make him sound like he has an assistant who does this sort of thing, but in truth, he just has a dog, and the dog (Boo, in case you ever meet him and want to say "hello") is rubbish at typing.

Born in Liverpool at the end of the sixties (it looks like he has decided the third person thing is worth sticking with) he found himself missing out on all the fun stuff and having to grow up wearing flares and lots of brown nylon.

He attended schools of varying degrees of dampness and peeling paint and left, finally, in 1983 to huge sighs of relief all around to take up a career in shovelling sh*t.

Although he excelled in shovelling sh*t he soon found himself redundant so began a quest that has found him at various times a jeweller, a roofer, a barman, a salesman, a forklift driver, a truck salesman, selling under-pants in Italy, sailing the Caribbean and a policeman. He currently drives a taxi and can often be found with his head in his hands at four in the morning on the streets of Liverpool.

He occasionally performs stand up comedy and acted opposite John Bishop's coffin in the Ken Loach film "Route Irish" after being recommended for the role by Bishop himself.

He has presented the odd piece for the BBC Politics Show but now they don't return his calls due to him being a diva and demanding blue smarties. He can often be heard on local radio, unless you are quick with the off button and he writes a regular column for Liverpool Confidential magazine.

He does not drive a Ferrari and is not related to Michael and you will not be the first person who has thought of that joke.

1 comment:

  1. Being made redundant from sh*t shovelling must have been really depressing - was the process automated or did people just sh*t less? I suspect the former. Nice observations told in an enjoyably readable fashion.
