BOOK DESCRIPTION
INSPIRED BY A TRUE STORY! In 1915, 2,067 skeletons were stolen from the ghost pueblo of Pecos...
Grandfather reveals to Hollow-Woman that he witnessed the theft of family skeletons 84 years earlier. The last of the Pecos, he had run after the trucks carrying the bones, skulls hanging out of windows, bones rattling in fear, until he stumbled and fell with his ear to the ground, listening to the rumble of tires carrying the bones far away. He begs his granddaughter to drive him to Boston, for he hears the bones crying, longing for home.
She could care less about old bones. She hates the haunted family ruins, a place of the Spanish Inquisition, church torchings, blood spillings, ghosts, witches, and poisonings. In a ratty, pickup-camper the cantankerous old man and his granddaughter bicker along the miles, from New Mexico to Boston to claim the bones.
Grandfather is a powerful shaman and he fashions a magical dream catcher, so she might "see" the past of her ancestors, and come to love the bones as he does. Along the way of a moving road trip, she ventures on a spiritual journey, in a Native American Roots fashion, and truly comes to embrace the ties that bind a family's past and present.
