In a uniquely crafted book that utilizes the animals and
situations they encounter to illustrate problem solving for real world issues
that far too many children encounter. Never preachy or speaking down to the
reader, the author has cleverly substituted the creatures into daily human
interactions, and uses their unique voices and characterizations to further
illustrate solutions and approaches to each other and working with one another
to benefit all.
Each character is not only beautifully illustrated with gorgeous full color drawings available in the book and at the Cast Website , these illustrations are incredibly well-matched to the voices and visions I had of the characters while I was reading the book. Sibel Hodge has used her skill to craft characters that are both unique and three-dimensional, with a "fun with words" approach in naming, sliding puns and creating sections of the book that are near musical in meter and pace.
A book that will appeal to young readers with the appeal of books like Wind in the Willows, or Charlotte's Web, this book would also be an ideal book to read with your children who may be too young to tackle a book over 100 pages alone. With clever word play, and the ability to craft a story that holds interest, even older animal lovers will find joys in this book.
