A NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:

Why over the years my first simple little book has had such a unique appeal to children and to others as well, I do not know. Yet, why did I write my first book in the first place? Why am I writing a second children's book similar to my first book, A Yellow Jellow, What Did You Say?, which is now in its second edition?

I have always liked silly words, wits, and rhymes. I liked the Zizzer-Zazzer-Zuzz at the end of Dr. Seuss's "ABC's". I liked Shel Silverstein's book, "The Missing Piece", and I really liked, "The Real Mother Goose". These books fascinated me when I was young. I read them and read them. I liked how they spoke to me, and sometimes from across the pages came a simple message wrapped in a certain kind of wit, humor, or in just plain silliness. I loved words. I loved how they sounded and were put together. I loved how they felt and how they made me feel. I don't know how many times I read that last page in Dr. Seuss's "ABC's" - The Zizzer-Zazzer-Zuzz.

REVIEWS

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully CraftedSeptember 28, 2012
Zam Zoodle Oop Boop Soup is not simply a children's book. It is a book for anybody who dares to imagine. For anybody who has spoken out loud, marveling at the naunce of human language; for anybody who has laughed and joked and relished the infinite possibilities of our world, and the worlds we create.

Throughout the book, JKaylin ushers in a cosmos of wonderful zaniness. His collection of poems and prose are garnished with oftentimes comedic and refreshingly eccentric illustrations. And boy-oh-boy, does the spectrum run wild! At one end, you have the lumpy Gore Demore, welcoming customers to his Deplorable Store. At another, it's a poor little boy, stuck in a most unfortunate dilemma: he must eat his way through a ten foot jelly bean wedged in the hall, or spend the rest of his days confined to his home.

What's most striking about JKaylin's work is not its obvious appeal to children, who can easily be envisioned giggling and speaking the author's delicious word creations. What is most striking, is that JKaylin has managed to create something that those of all ages can truly enjoy. Throughout the book, adult undertones pervade. Themes of self-worth, and love and success, and striving impossibly to achieve one's dreams resonate; surely children will benefit from the positivity imbued, but it's the adults, perhaps reading alongside or listening to their kids, who will take a most pleasant surprise in these embedded gems.

Of course, this is not to say that JKaylin does not acknowledge some of the more unfortunate realities of the world we know and love. However, he does so adeptly, with a sensitivity and inventive humor befitting of many great children's book writers.

At the end, when the illustrations are done and the poems finished, the reaction is simple. You just can't help but smile.
