The folks at Flurries Unlimited (FU) caught up with paranormal romance author and natural products designer Laurencia Hoffman (LH) for a quick chat about her writing and inspirations. This is what we talked about:
FU: Of all the different genres to choose from, what inspired you to write paranormal romance?
LH: I've always had a love of the paranormal – ghosts, witches, vampires, werewolves, even demons depending on the story. I don't like to have limitations when I'm writing, so writing in the paranormal genre gives me the freedom to do whatever I want. No matter how dark or twisted my stories are, there is always an element of romance. Love is everywhere in the real world, so I will always include it in my fiction!
FU: According to your bio, in addition to being an author, you also have your own line of natural products. Can you tell us a little bit more about this and how it influences your writing?
LH: Being creative in all aspects of my life is very important to me. It helps to be doing creative things inside and outside of my writing world. Usually when I'm working, I'm thinking about characters and plot lines. Making my own products, or preserving and designing flowers, really helps to get my inspiration flowing.
LH: I would have to say that Bittersweet is my favorite of the three. It has the most romantic story out of the others, and I think it was also better written. Sometimes I don't like thinking back on a story because it was too sad, but Bittersweet in a perfect balance for me.
FU: They say that every character has some of the author in him/her. Which of your characters is most like you? In what way?
LH: That's a tough one! I suppose, from Wages of Sin: Bad Blood, I'm a mixture of Melina and Izzy. Melina is a spitfire, she doesn't take crap from anyone. If she doesn't like you, you'll know it, and she holds other people accountable for their actions. She doesn't just let things slide. That's how I am. But Izzy is innocent in many ways, and she doesn't understand the evils in this world. She doesn't judge and she has compassion for everyone she comes across. I'm like that too.
LH: Right now, I'm working on the sixth book in the Wages of Sin series with my writing partner. We're trying to bring the series to a satisfying close. We're not sure when the second book will be published, but hopefully within the next several months! I also have another release coming out in June called A Wish for Remembrance.
FU: Thank you so much or chatting with us.
