BOOK OF THE DAY: Generation Why by Matt Stokes

by Matt Stokes

BOOK DESCRIPTION
Success and prosperity weren't supposed to be difficult to come by for Adam, Annie, and Ivan when they moved from their home state of Kansas and migrated to Los Angeles, chasing an ambiguous dream. Unfortunately for them, when every other child of the Self Esteem Era and the Information Age decides to chase the same dream, it dawns on these three that - contrary to what "Sesame Street" told them - maybe they're not all that special after all. What follows is a strange and very funny journey through the world of the 2010s, easily the weirdest time ever to be alive.

Funny, surprising bookJuly 6, 2012
This review is from: Generation Why (Kindle Edition)
As the title of the review suggests, this book is surprising, because it manages to pack so much in into such an easy read. The number-one thing to say about it is that it's very dark, but very funny about that darkness. Another reviewer pointed out that this book has lots of things to think about, and that's so true. There's an awful lot to chew on. And as a person in my twenties, as a member of Generation Y, I can totally relate to everything these characters talking about - from the difficulty with your parents as you get older and they still want to pull the strings of your life, to not knowing how to find any satisfaction and meaning after you get out of college and don't have anything to fill the void - this book nails it all. Five stars, highly recommended reading.

Funny, smart and just deep enoughJuly 5, 2012

Generation Why made me laugh AND think. There's a ton of little references and facts sprinkled throughout the book, things that were part of the story line, but interesting all on their own, so I went and looked those things up after reading about them. The blogs are one of my favorite parts about the book. Especially the "Vampire Christian Romance" one. There were several laugh allowed moments. More than anything I like how the characters felt real and like people I know. Also it's nice to know that so many of the quirky, blowhard-y, maddening things people do drive someone else as crazy as the drive me. :)
