Tanith claims to have had psychic visions that the killer has ritually sacrificed other teenagers in his attempts to summon a powerful, ancient demon.
All Garrett's beliefs about the nature of reality will be tested as he is forced to team up with a woman he is fiercely attracted to but cannot trust, in a race to uncover a psychotic killer before he strikes again.

I just finished reading The Book of Shadows by Alex Sokoloff and wow this is amazing! I am not really a supernatural fan, but Alex seems to be able to write with enough reality to make you think maybe..... Anyway, this is a police procedural with a supernatural bend that has the Detective wondering but still blaming it on drugs. He isn't sure what to believe. Good witches, demons and a very sick serial killer make this one exciting and hard to put down thriller. Alex is a terrific writer, who can write several genres in one story and make it all work. Great book, highly recommended!

Garrett and Landauer are two Boston PD homicide detectives who get the call when a mutilated body is found in a landfill. There were ritualistic symbols carved into her flesh, sparking up an investigation that leads Garrett down a path he never thought even existed. Landauer is definitely the old school cop - cracking wise, but still a very observant and steadfast kind of guy. Garrett is the rising star and he doesn't give up as the case's twists come to light in a very dark and forbidding manner. Tanith, a witch, comes to the precinct to tell the detectives that the suspect they have in custody is the wrong man and they need to look deeper. But only Garrett listens and is willing to take the next steps to find out the truth.
I enjoyed the book very much and I loved how it played on our deepest fears and wonders. The writing was detailed - so if you have a weak stomach, it's not for you. The mix of magic, mental illness, and mayhem is intoxicating and the book just casts its spell over you. This might make you question your most deeply held beliefs about what is possible. I was definitely impressed and want to read more of Ms. Sokoloff's writing!
